Sometimes in church we tend to be repetitive with our hymn choice. There are like 400 hymns in the hymnal and I probably know 25 pretty well. So I thought to dedicate a portion of my new Music Monday segment to hymns
So without further ado…
Hymn #1 in the SDAH (Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal) is Praise to the Lord. It was written by Joachim Neander.
Here are the lyrics:
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;
Join ye in glad adoration!Praise to the Lord, Who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shieldeth thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
If with His love He befriend thee.
Mr. Neander got his inspiration for Psalms 103:2-5 (KJ21)
2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits–3who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases, 4who redeemeth thy life from destruction, who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies, 5who satisfieth thy mouth with good things, so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
And it goes a lil something like this:
